Tips For Better Lab Service
- Completely fill out a prescription form for each appliance.
- Communication is important - give laboratory specific instructions on construction of appliances, even the most simple request.
- Refer to the laboratory's literature and use the same terminology when requesting or designing appliances including the name of specific appliances.
- When requesting athletic mouthguards, specify the sport, material and trim of the appliance, as well as color.
- Upper and lower models should always be sent when repositioning teeth.
- When upper and lower models are sent, indicate on which arch the appliance is to be made.
- Include a wax bite when upper and lower models are sent for the construction of any appliance.
- When sending an appliance for repair, do not take impression with retainer in the mouth.
- Do not place strip wax or any other substance over brackets before taking an impression.
- Check impressions or models for voids (bubbles) or distortion (pinching).
- Always send a model with an appliance that requires repair or adjustment.
